The Colaiste Choilm project involved the design and construction of a new school to be located on the existing site of Colaiste Choilm Community School, Co. Offaly. The new school consists of a three storey building containing administration, circulation, teaching accommodation, specialist rooms and a sports hall.
The development was handed over in two phases:
Phase One – Construction of new school and playing pitch.
Phase Two – Demolition of existing school and construction of car parking areas.
Green Building Award 2012
The scheme was the first A2 rated and most airtight school in Ireland.
- Total annual energy use of only 57kWh/m2/year while offering notably improved air quality
- Carbon impact reduction of approximately 40% relative to current standards
- Average U-Value 50% below current building standards
- Water consumption 65% lower than a typical school, with 90% of flushed water recovered from rainwater
