Apprentice carpenters spreading Christmas cheer with handmade toys
Thursday 23rd December 2021: John Sisk & Son (Sisk) apprentices at its Dublin joinery and training centre will deliver hundreds of handmade toys for children to charities and hospitals across Ireland, UK and Europe this Christmas.
Sisk has created an FPV (First Person View) drone video capturing the skills and craft involved in its toy making process. The video shows one continuous shot of its apprentices dressed as Santa’s helpers cutting, sawing, spraying and screwing toys together.

The handcrafted wooden toy story is part of a long-standing Sisk tradition. The Sisk Christmas toy project was started by John G Sisk at the Sisk Joinery Workshop in Dublin 50 years ago in 1971. Today, Sisk has a state-of-the art training facility for apprentice carpenters and joiners located at its head office in Dublin.
Work on the wooden toys commences in mid-November and takes four to five weeks to complete, with all staff and management in the Sisk training centre getting involved. Each November, the team get together to decide on the toys they are going to make, sourcing ideas from books, websites and feedback from the charities who have received toys in the past.
