Friday 25th February 2022: The GAA club finals took place in Croke Park recently, at which one of our own tasted victory with his local hurling team.
Sean Gainey, Section Foreman on Fibonacci Square in Dublin, plays for Naas GAA, who were crowned All-Ireland Intermediate hurling champions after beating Munster team Kilmoyley by a two-point margin.
Sean, who joined Sisk as an apprentice carpenter/joiner back in 2011, has always played with Naas. “I started playing hurling when I was six years old,” he says.
The recent win in Croke Park is a big deal. “It’s the first time that Naas have won three in a row – Kildare Championships, a Leinster, and an All-Ireland final. So, a lot of first achievements this year.”
Sean had a well-established build-up to the big game itself. “I tried to keep the same routine in the run-up to all games. It helped me, knowing that this has always worked for me and to treat every game the same even thought it was an All-Ireland final.
“At work I had a very supportive site team that have always been interested and kept an eye on all my games up to all the finals. A good few members of the team are involved and have a love for GAA, whether it be hurling or football,” says the wing-back/midfielder.
In addition to the hurling and the day job, Sean is also half-way through the Construction Site Management course at TU Dublin. But back to the day job and things are busy at Fibonacci.
“Over the weekend of February 11-13 we had the important milestone of demobilising two of our four tower cranes, TC2 and TC4, located on the south end of the site. This operation brought about its challenges but thankfully the dismantling was completed safely.”
