Before we started this scheme, there were significant delays at peak times
The A19 Coast Road, Newcastle became open to traffic at 5am on Monday morning (1st April).
This scheme has not been without its challenges but the collective team have dealt them as required in a collaborative manner – particular credit must be given to James Keogh who led the Sisk team. Well done to all the Sisk team who have delivered this project for Highways England.
Over 80,000 drivers a day are experiencing safer and smoother journeys across North Tyneside thanks to the opening of the North East’s first ever triple decker junction.
The £75 million Highways England Coast Road scheme has been opened on time and traffic is now able to use the new section of road. This means that drivers will no longer have to negotiate the roundabout and can continue straight on along the A19.
